Camp Kinkora site
In August 1997, AGMers held their third world-wide irl meeting - a week-long holiday
at Camp Kinkora, about an hour and a half's drive outside Montreal in Canada. As always,
it was a brilliant week and the photos on these pages show some of the fun! :-))
|
The camp is centred along the side of a lake which is divided in two by a narrow
bridge towards one end. On the far side of the bridge are steep woodland trails.
|
The lake provided plenty of opportunity for water based activities. Canadian canoes,
double kayaks and pedal boats are provided by the camp.
|
This is the main administrative building where the staff can escape from the campers!
|
Each cabin has about 20 beds, mostly bunks, in one large room and one small room.
The cabins each have a washroom and a separate large storage/play area underneath.
|
The camp usually caters for 'younger' campers but the playground proved to be
perfect for us! :)
|
A Chapel stands on the side of the lake just across the bridge. As well as the usual
fittings and furniture the chapel contained a few boats laid up for the coming winter
and a piano which caused a few AGMers to sneak off for impromptue concerts!
|
Although the weather was mostly hot and dry, we had two days of rain which
resulted in us all moving indoors and lighting a fire in the huge fireplace in the
main dining hall instead of the camp fire. Despite not having the right clothes
for the downpour, AGMers came back out to admire the double rainbow which
echoed the one seen by some of us at AZAGM in 1995. You can only just see
the bottom of the second rainbow in this picture - hopefully somebody will send
me a better picture in due course. At one point, the main bow developed a
second ring just inside itself causing a triple rainbow effect - the first I've ever
seen! :-)
|
AGMers tend to burn the midnight oil and consequently a lot of them don't make
it down to breakfast at 8 in the morning. For the few of us who sleep less and wake
early, the hours before breakfast held the most beautiful views of the mists coming
up off the lake in the cold crisp mornings. Worth getting up for! I love this picture. :)
If you'd like to see more of the beautiful mornings try this
