News in brief......24 June 98
Barbera Walters is unable to make it to
UKAGM. There's a 50/50 chance of another cancer in her lung. The other 50/50 is
pnuemonia...the cat scan of the 19th revealed that it is cancer, in her upper
left lobe. Hugs and vibes are welcome
Kate has also been in hospital after
tripping up on a cats eye, and falling awkwardly on her arm, breaking it, and
requiring an operation to place a pin in her elbow. Kate says that she now has
a large bruise where the operation was carried out. For the more technical
minded, she says:
"I had a type II fracture of the radial
head - with a displacement of around 3mm. My surgeon has repaired the
fracture with 2 AO cortical screws (2.7mm). The registrar was a bit peeved
that the surgeon didn't use a Herbert's screw, as the hospital has recently
bought all the new equipment for this".
However, she is now able to dress herself now the bandages and sutures have been
removed.
Lynne Deshler has said goodbye to four of
her lambs, Serena, Comet, Lunar and Abby. They're off to some new owners...
Other events include a very old Rooster, who was feeling rather unwell. He is
over 6 years old, and had a nerve problem that made him unable to move for
several weeks, has died, as has another rooster, who was
only 3 years old, but under rather more tragic circumstances. Lynn found him
severly injured, she thinks with a broken neck, but unsure who or what caused
the injuries.
It's also been a couple of weeks of transport chaos...Fred stuck in New York,
John Hawksley plotting revenge against British Airways after a flight
cancellation, and Lynne who forgot her photo ID on one flight, and her plane
suffering hydraulic leaks on another...!
Paula and Jef are now back after their honeymoon
in Greece, with lots of sun and 30C temperatures! Paula thanks all of those
who turned up to the wedding :-)
Casey is cursed. Or so it seems...handing over
to him:
"Okay, whoever has the little "hex" or "voodoo" doll of me, enough is enough!
I was patient when I spent half my business trip in bed because I couldn't
stand up without losing the contents of my stomach.
I was understanding when I spent three days at home, dangerously dehydrated,
because of problems "out the other end" (if you get my meaning) so bad that I
was in the bathroom every 4 to 8 MINUTES for a total of 16 hours.
I was even gentle when I missed my first year anniversary due to a soaring
fever and blinding headache.
Now, I've fallen and smashed my knee into the curb of the sidewalk leading into
the building where I work.
(BTW, all of the above has happened within the past 20 days!)". I think good
vibes will be appreciated :-)
Aouali has recived yet another pay rise from
work...this is the third one in six months. Needless to say, she seems rather
pleased :-)
Chris/#6 also reports he has passed his
degree, getting an upper second class hounours (aka a 2:1, for those who
know the system).
