Ahuva - am I too late?
I read the responses you've had so far, and I agree to many
of the things others have said. I only have short comments.
Reading through what I have written, I seem like a cynic, and
maybe I am.Don't use all of it if you don't like it.

People on AGM are there because they feel AGM is a "safe" and friendly
place. The newsgroup is a net home. You don't want a war in your home.
We're all net family, so we don't fight. Fighting leads to unsecurity.
Feeling at home and feeling unsecure are uncompatible feelings.

How did I react? I mostly ignored the intruders. But I also became more
reserved towards newbies. I don't usually greet newbies, because there
are so many people that need attention. But during this period I read
the newbie posts with suspicious eyes to see if they were fake or real:).
Re: moving AGM to another newsgroup:
People on the mailing list weren't positive to this suggestion, and it
was never a real alternativ.
I didn't think it was a big deal. The name and place doesn't matter, it's
the people that make AGM. If we temporarily had to relocate, that would
have been ok with me. But it probably wouldn't have been possible to
"hide", given search tools like deja news. So we did the best we could
have done, kept ignoring them. In the end, they got tired of flaming each
other and left.
Re: Karl:
Karl got our advice but didn't take it. He could have ended it earlier
if he wanted to. There were people on AGM that weren't sure whether
he was "real or fake". I'm afraid I feel he never became part of the
AGM family.

I got the impression that AGMers felt a need to communicate more
through email and talkers during the flames period.
I and others posted neutral and/or positive posts just to make sure
the good/bad ratio was high:).

We've seen that AGM lives on, even after an attack like this.
We know we're strong enough, and we know the rule worked.
I think the people who "lived through it" feel like a tighter unit.
"We've been through good and bad together":).
And I think it helped keeping the size of the group at a manageable
level.
